Rebeca Sandoval-Kennedy, LSCSW
Education and
Training
Rebeca Sandoval-Kennedy is a
Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker with more than
ten years of experience working with individuals and families.
She was born and raised in Hutchinson and graduated from
Hutchinson High School. She graduated from Hutchinson Community
College and Bethany College (Lindsborg, KS) with a Bachelor of
Science in Social Work and Administration of Justice. She
graduated with Honors from Newman University (Wichita, KS) with
a Masters in Social Work. In 2008, she graduated from Mid
America Nazarene University (Olathe, KS) with a certificate in
Play Therapy. She has completed additional training in
trauma-based treatment, sand tray therapy, filial therapy,
theraplay, bereavement issues, foster care/adoption issues,
substance abuse and attachment-based issues.
Rebeca specializes in working
with children, teenagers, and families. She specializes in
treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, attachment issues,
adoption issues, trauma, grief/loss, and family discord issues.
She has an eclectic therapeutic model approach. She believes
that no one particular model or theory works for everyone when
it comes to their specific situation. She focuses on building
rapport with individuals and assisting them in setting their
own therapeutic goals. She is very client centered. She loves
to be creative in therapy and “thinks outside the box”, when
needing to come up with solutions to specific struggles.
Previous
Experience
Rebeca worked at the community
mental health center in Hutchinson for over seven years. She
has worked in many areas of the Social Work profession. She
worked as a case manager with severely persistently mentally
ill adults, an advocate with women in domestic violence
situations, and as a houseparent with children in an emergency
children’s shelter home. She has worked in the corrections
field with both offenders and victims. She has worked in the
criminal justice field and in substance abuse counseling. She
has experience with supervising students in the Social Work
profession. She is an adjunct professor with Bethany College
teaching social work classes.
Rebeca serves on three boards in
Hutchinson. She is a board member for Big Brothers and Big
Sisters of Reno County, Prairie Independent Living Center, and
Communities That Care. She is married and has two dogs.
